The official inquiry has revealed startling allegations that sub-postmasters were lured “into temptation” by the allure of cash, while the company allegedly downplayed system faults.
Behind-the-Scenes Deception
Former Conservative MP Lord Arbuthnot, a key advocate for sub-postmasters seeking justice, accused the Post Office of engaging in a covert process to conceal Horizon system flaws. He asserted that the company had been “stringing MPs along” and safeguarding its existence.
According to Lord Arbuthnot’s testimony, an independent forensic investigator disclosed that Post Office staff were aware of numerous system bugs that had not been shared with Members of Parliament.
A Scandal Unveiled
The recent airing of the ITV drama “Mr. Bates vs The Post Office,” featuring Lord Arbuthnot, thrust the organization into the spotlight. The scandal surrounding the Horizon system is now recognised as one of the most significant miscarriages of justice in UK legal history.

Paula Vennells Under Scrutiny
Former Post Office CEO Paula Vennells has come under fire. Lord Arbuthnot expressed dissatisfaction with her response to his concerns about sub-postmaster complaints related to the Horizon system. Vennells allegedly brushed off these issues, leaving him unsatisfied.
The inquiry also revealed that Vennells suggested sub-postmasters might be tempted to borrow money from tills—a statement that has raised eyebrows and intensified the ongoing investigation.
