Police in Majorca have located the body of a British man after days of searching in a mountainous area, where he and a British woman were swept away by a flash flood earlier this week. Both individuals were believed to have been hiking along a trail that passes through the Torrent de Pareis canyon in the Tramuntana mountains when severe weather struck the island on Tuesday.
The British woman’s body was discovered on Wednesday, prompting an extensive search for the missing man. On Friday, Spain’s Civil Guard confirmed they had found his body in the same region.
The canyon, known for its dramatic cliffs and hidden beach, is particularly hazardous during periods of heavy rain, with flash floods being a common occurrence from autumn to spring. Emergency services had been searching the area since the storm hit earlier in the week, causing widespread flooding across the Balearic Islands and parts of Spain’s eastern coast.
The British pair had been hiking when the sudden storm turned the serene trail into a dangerous torrent. Authorities had placed the region on high alert for strong winds and heavy rainfall earlier in the week.
