Frying Pan, Scissors & Knife Used in Vicious Assault
Swansea Crown Court heard Battenbough attacked Ms Williams with a frying pan, scissors, and a knife. The judge condemned the assault as showing “exceptional ferocity.” Police found Ms Williams’ body on February 27 after she was reported missing. Her clothing was torn and weapons stained with blood and Battenbough’s DNA were recovered nearby.
No Motive Given But Guilty Plea Secures Long Sentence
Battenbough offered no explanation for the brutal killing but pleaded guilty to murder. He must serve a minimum of 20 years and 10 months behind bars before any chance of release. Judge Paul Thomas KC said Ms Williams endured “unimaginable terror” in her final moments and slammed Battenbough for acting “as though nothing had happened” in the days after the murder.
Family Speak Out: “We Only Had Each Other”
Ms Williams’ family voiced fears over Battenbough’s early release despite his violent past, which included burglary, battery, and possession of offensive weapons. Her mother broke down in court: “Leanne was my only child and I am an only child. We only really had each other. Since her death, I have become a recluse. She was beautiful, strong, and kind. I trust we will be together someday.”
