A popular restaurant in town has spoken out after a group of diners allegedly left without paying a £700 bill, sparking frustration and disbelief among staff and the local community.
The incident took place at Turkuaz Restaurant, a well-known spot for Turkish cuisine when a large family group arrived for a meal. Staff claim the group was loud and disruptive, left a significant mess, and ordered a large amount of food — only to walk out under the pretense of going outside to smoke, never to return.
In a social media post that has since gone viral, a spokesperson for the restaurant wrote:
“This family came to eat at our Turkuaz restaurant in town, they were loud, made a mess, ate £700 worth of food, told us they were going out to smoke a cigarette — then ran away without paying. What sort of behaviour is this?”
The restaurant’s staff were left stunned and out of pocket, calling the behaviour “shameless” and “deeply disrespectful” to those working in the hospitality industry.
Community Response
The post has received an outpouring of support, with many locals condemning the incident and urging the restaurant to report the matter to police.
One commenter wrote: “Absolutely disgraceful. I hope they’re caught and made to pay every penny.” Another added: “People work hard to run businesses — this kind of behaviour hurts everyone.”
Investigation Underway
Staff at Turkuaz have confirmed they are reviewing CCTV footage and plan to report the incident to police. It is not yet known whether any formal identification has been made of the group.
Business owners are now urging others in the hospitality industry to remain vigilant, especially when serving large groups.
