Respected Road’s Police Sergeant cleared of assault

A respected roads policing officer who has served over 25 years in the force from Hampshire Constabulary has been cleared of assault and any wrongdoing following a two-day appeal at Guildford Crown court we can reveal. Former Island Police officer Dave Sanderson who is now based at the Havant Roads Policing Unit in Hampshire has had the cloud of a conviction hanging over his head for nearly two years. The Police traffic Sergeant was off duty when he spotted a woman using her mobile phone whilst out on a motorcycle in Chandlers Ford in June 2016. No nonsense Sanderson who is a strong campaigner of not using the phone whilst driving felt it was his duty to speak to the woman about her behaviour after seeing her using the device whilst driving. On approaching the woman to speak to her she tried to drive off and was threatening towards the off-duty officer. Sanderson, was last year convicted of assault by beating after magistrates found him guilty following a trial in Worthing. Yesterday (Thursday) he was cleared after a two-day appeal at Guildford Crown Court. Previously he has said: As a police officer I have attended some of the most serious and fatal collisions in Hampshire. I have had to break life-changing news to families who have been killed as a result of people using a mobile. The officer walked free with his character unblemished from the court after nearly twenty five years of public service. Sanderson had been moved sideways during the investigation it is unclear if he will return to his road Policing post. It is unclear if the woman has faced legal action as a result of the stop for using the mobile phon .
