In a surprising turn of events, David Cameron has been appointed as the new Foreign Secretary in a cabinet reshuffle initiated by Rishi Sunak. The seasoned politician, who resigned as a Member of Parliament in 2016 following the Brexit referendum, was spotted entering Number 10 Downing Street this morning.
Although Cameron stepped away from elected office in 2016 after his campaign to Remain in the EU fell short, the government has confirmed a new chapter for him.
The former Prime Minister will be entering the House of Lords as a life peer, providing him with the platform to once again serve as a minister.
In a statement on X Mr Cameron said
“While I have been out of front-line politics for the last seven years, I hope that my experience – as Conservative Leader for eleven years and Prime Minister for six – will assist me in helping the prime minister,” Cameron says.
He added that, though he may have “disagreed with some individual decisions” made by Sunak, the PM is a “strong and capable” leader.
