Re-Investigation Launched into Murder of Ryan Passey in Stourbridge Nightclub
Re-Investigation Launched into Murder of Ryan Passey in Stourbridge Nightclub – UKNIP

Detectives have taken a significant step towards finding justice for Ryan Passey, who tragically lost his life in a nightclub stabbing in Stourbridge in August 2017. Ryan, aged 24, was enjoying a night out with friends after playing at a local football match when the unthinkable happened inside Chicago’s nightclub.

Following the stabbing, Ryan was immediately rushed to the hospital, but sadly succumbed to his injuries, having sustained a single stab wound to the chest. A 19-year-old man was charged with Ryan’s murder, but a jury’s verdict in February 2018 found him not guilty, leaving Ryan’s family and friends devastated.

Last year, West Yorkshire Police undertook an independent review of the investigation and trial, presenting their findings to the authorities last month. In response to the review’s 18 recommendations, West Midlands Police’s Homicide officers have initiated a re-investigation into Ryan’s tragic death.

The development marks a positive step forward in the quest for justice. Detectives from the homicide department have met with Ryan’s family to discuss the next steps in the investigation. A statement released by Det Supt Shaun Edwards, head of the homicide department, affirmed the commitment to follow up on all recommendations and work closely with Ryan’s family throughout the investigation.

Ryan’s family has welcomed the re-investigation, and they are urging anyone with information, regardless of when it occurred, to come forward and assist the police. Their hope is that the fresh investigation will finally bring closure and justice to Ryan’s untimely death.

Those with any information relevant to the case are encouraged to contact West Midlands Police via 101 or the Live Chat feature on their website, quoting log 2313 of 20 July 2023. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The Justice For Ryan Facebook page, which has been advocating for justice over the past five years, expressed gratitude to those who have supported their campaign. They thanked their private investigator, Barrister, MP, and all the friends, followers, and supporters who have stood by them throughout their arduous journey.

The 6th of August will mark the sixth anniversary of Ryan’s passing, and while the pain of losing him remains, his family’s determination for justice has never wavered. They vowed to continue fighting until justice is finally served for their beloved son, and they hope that the new investigation will bring the closure they have sought for so long.
