Rapist Logan Doig Condemned by Judge for Blaming Female Victims as He Receives Jail Sentence – UKNIP

Logan Doig, 23, has been sentenced to nine-and-a-half years in jail for a series of offences committed between 2015 and 2020 across Tayside and Edinburgh. Doig, who committed the crimes between the ages of 15 and 21, was found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting four women, sexually assaulting a fifth woman, and non-sexual assault.

During the trial, Doig maintained his innocence and placed blame on his victims. However, he was convicted of 12 separate offenses and received a 12-and-a-half year extended sentence at the High Court in Glasgow. Nine-and-a-half years of the sentence will be served in custody, and Doig has been placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

The sentencing took into account the Scottish Sentencing Council’s guidelines for offenders under the age of 25. These guidelines recognize that young people may possess limited judgment, vulnerability to negative influences, and a reduced ability to comprehend the consequences of their actions. As a result, the guidelines suggest that younger offenders should generally receive lower sentences compared to older individuals who commit similar offenses.

Judge Lord Clark acknowledged the guidelines and emphasized Doig’s lack of remorse and denial of the rape and sexual assault convictions. Lord Clark expressed concern about the prospects of rehabilitation given Doig’s denial and the absence of clarity on his attitude towards his crimes.

The judge stated, “In view of the type of offences for which you have been convicted and the repeated pattern of them, with some of them aggravated by abusive behaviour, and your lack of remorse or empathy for your victims, I conclude that you present the level of risk to the safety of women that makes an extended sentence necessary for the protection of the public.

Lord Clark further highlighted the impact of the crimes on the victims, acknowledging the long-lasting consequences that such offences can have. He expressed hope that the conclusion of the case would provide some measure of closure and assistance to the young women affected.

Logan Doig’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions and providing support and justice to victims of sexual assault. The court’s decision reflects a commitment to protecting the public and sending a strong message that such offences will not be tolerated in society.
