Man Questioned After Shining Laser at Police Helicopter on the Isle of Wight

A man has been questioned by police after he shone a laser at a police helicopter during a nighttime search and rescue operation on the Isle of Wight.

Police Helicopter Targeted During Search for Vulnerable Person

The incident occurred while air support officers were assisting ground units in searching for a vulnerable person with special needs who had been reported missing.

The search operation eventually led to the discovery of the missing individual on Yaverland Beach, where they were found safe.

Helicopter Crew Targeted with Laser and Sight a Man with a Weapon

During the search efforts, the police helicopter crew was subjected to a laser attack, which could have jeopardized the safety of those on board.

Despite the interference, the air crew maintained safe operation and successfully identified the origin of the laser beam. Upon closer inspection, they spotted a man holding what appeared to be a weapon.

At one stage, the helicopter briefly landed in an attempt to locate the suspect.

Man Found with Gun, Police Enquiries Ongoing

Following further enquiries, officers spoke to the man, and investigations remain ongoing after he was reportedly found in possession of a gun.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any arrests have been made or if the firearm was real or imitation.

Police Warning on Dangers of Laser Attacks

Shining lasers at aircraft is a serious offense, as it can temporarily blind pilots and cause major safety risks.

The Metropolitan Police and Hampshire Constabulary continue to warn against reckless behavior involving lasers, urging the public to report dangerous incidents immediately.
