Police Make Further Arrest in Matthew Schofield Murder Investigation

Police investigating the tragic murder of Matthew Schofield, a 34-year-old man, in Leicester have announced a recent arrest in connection with the case. Matthew Schofield lost his life after being subjected to a brutal assault on Belgrave Road at approximately 3:00am on June 11, 2023.

Leicestershire Police reported that a 22-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of murder on December 27. Subsequently, he was released on bail while investigators continue to pursue their inquiries. This recent development marks the six-month anniversary of Mr. Schofield’s untimely death.

In total, 16 individuals have been apprehended as part of the ongoing investigation. Of those arrested, 12 individuals are currently out on police bail, while one person was released under investigation. Additionally, three individuals have been released with no further action taken against them.

The circumstances surrounding Matthew Schofield’s death remain a matter of intense scrutiny for law enforcement. Officers discovered Mr Schofield almost 90 minutes after the initial attack, and he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

In December, Emma Daniels, the mother of Matthew Schofield, appealed to the public for information regarding her son’s murder, emphasising the need for answers and closure. Investigators continue their efforts to piece together the events leading to this tragic loss of life, as they work towards justice for Matthew Schofield and his grieving family.
