Police Locate One of Two Men Who Escaped from Springfield Hospital; Search Continues for Second Man

One of two men who absconded from Springfield Hospital in southwest London has been located and detained by police. Ramon Martin, 31, was found in the Clapham Junction area and is being returned to the hospital.

Urgent enquiries continue to locate 20-year-old Adil Maxamed, and officers are warning the public not to approach him. Maxamed remains at large after escaping from the hospital.

At around 22:10hrs on Friday, 19 July, three men absconded from Springfield Hospital on Glenburnie Road, SW17, after breaking a glass door. Metropolitan Police officers detained one man at around 12.45am on 20 July at a residential address in south London and returned him to the hospital.

Ramon Martin was detained on Saturday afternoon, 20 July, but Adil Maxamed remains outstanding.

Maxamed is a patient at the hospital under the Mental Health Act. At10.35.pm on 19 July, he was seen entering Tooting Bec station and boarding a Northern Line train. Enquiries are ongoing to track his subsequent movements. Maxamed has known links to the Kingston area.

The police investigation to locate and detain him is being led by CID officers based in southwest London, with support from specialist colleagues across the Met.

The public are warned not to approach Maxamed. Anyone who may have seen him is asked to call 101, referencing incident 8713/19Jul. For an immediate sighting, please dial 999.
