The Major Investigation Team of the Police Service of Northern Ireland has commenced a murder investigation after a fatal shooting incident in west Belfast. Kevin Conway, a 26-year-old individual, lost his life in his Greenan residence on Tuesday night at approximately 9.30pm
Detective Inspector Gina Quinn, leading the investigation, expressed the solemnity of the situation, stating, “Kevin, a father, son, and brother, was brutally murdered in his own residence. Shot multiple times, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. My thoughts are with Kevin’s family and loved ones grappling with this loss, and the wider community remains in shock.”
Describing the crime as “horrific, calculated, and ruthless,” Quinn emphasised the brutality of the murder, deeming such cold-blooded acts unfit for society.
While the investigation is in its early stages, Detective Inspector Quinn urged individuals present in the Greenan area from 4pm onwards on the evening of the incident to step forward with any information. The significance of CCTV or dashcam footage was particularly emphasised to aid the inquiry. Quinn acknowledged the apprehension within the community but underscored that those responsible for this shocking murder have no place in society.
Quinn assured the public of an augmented police presence in the area and appealed to locals to share any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem. Encouraging the community to come forward with confidence, she stated, “Kevin’s family deserve justice.”
Individuals possessing information or dash cam footage related to the incident are urged to contact detectives at 101, quoting reference 1714 of 09/01/2024. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or online at http:///www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
