Police Investigate Serious Collision Between Van and Pedestrian in Southampton

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police are investigating a serious collision between a van and a pedestrian that occurred on Ruby Road in Southampton on Saturday, December 23. The incident transpired shortly after 10:15 am and left an 84-year-old man with severe injuries.

According to reports, the pedestrian was involved in the collision with a black Mercedes Sprinter van. Following the incident, emergency services swiftly arrived at the scene and transported the injured man to Southampton General Hospital. At the hospital, he continues to receive medical treatment for his serious injuries, which include broken bones. Fortunately, his condition is presently described as stable.

In connection with the incident, a 66-year-old man was taken into custody by the police. He was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving and driving with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit. Subsequently, the man has been released from custody, but the investigation into the case remains ongoing.

The police are appealing to the public for assistance in their inquiry and are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or possesses relevant dashcam footage of the incident.
