Police Scotland is appealing for information following a suspected attempt to harm birds of prey in the Strathspey area. On Saturday, June 8, 2024, officers received a report about an active Goshawk nest discovered under suspicious circumstances within a forest near Loch Gynack.

Enquiries were conducted at the site in collaboration with RSPB Scotland, revealing that the nest had been deliberately targeted with a shotgun. The nest and damaged branches were subsequently examined using X-rays, with assistance from staff at the Kincraig Highland Wildlife Park.

Police Constable Daniel Sutherland, the Highland and Islands Wildlife Crime Liaison officer, emphasised that all birds of prey are fully protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, making it illegal to harm or kill them. He urged anyone in the local community who might have relevant information to come forward.
