Officers were called to Arnold Road, Old Basford, after receiving reports a business was being broken into.

After arriving at the scene at around 9.05pm on Wednesday (19 July), a padlock to the compound was found to have been cut off but the gate remained closed.

A search was then carried out of the site by response officers, with the support of the Operational Support team, who spotted two suspects leaving the site through a different gate.

At that point, the suspects ran in the direction of Fenton Road but didn’t get far before officers pursuing on foot caught up with and detained them nearby.

A further search around the business site then led to a van being discovered with the engine still running, containing an angle grinder in the footwell.

Following further inquiries, this vehicle was found to have been reported stolen from the South Yorkshire area.

A 36-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were both subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.

Chief Inspector Chris Pearson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Thanks to the alertness of our officers, we were ultimately able to disrupt a potential burglary, arrest two suspects, and recover a stolen vehicle in the process.

“This was a great example of our teams – in this case officers from response and Operational Support – working together to get a positive result.

“Commercial break-ins like the one we attended here can have a hugely detrimental impact on people’s livelihoods and are completely unacceptable, so we’re pleased to have been able to stop this from happening.

“Our inquiries are still ongoing into this incident, so we’d ask anyone with information to call the police on 101, quoting incident 760 of 19 July 2023, or Crimestoppers where information can be reported anonymously on 0800 555 111
