West Yorkshire Police recognises the devastating effect being a victim of
hate crime can have on individuals and whole communities.
The force regularly campaigns with partners to raise awareness of hate
crime and continues to encourage victims to come forwards and make their
voices heard.
Islamophobia Awareness month takes place across November and was founded in
2012 to raise awareness of the topic and the contribution Muslim
communities make in society.
Insp Dyson said: “This was a fantastic event and a real honour for me to
speak to invited guests regarding hate crime, and highlight the great work
that West Yorkshire Police do in investigating such crime and supporting
victims.
“Hate crime affects so many people, and it was a privilege to be able to
discuss peoples’ experience of hate incidents, and how this not only
affects individual victims, but also family, friends and communities.
“It was pleasing to hear guests applauding how seriously West Yorkshire
Police take hate crime, and extremely reassuring that our communities are
becoming more reassured in reporting such offences.
“Hate crime can never be tolerated, and West Yorkshire Police will continue
to robustly investigate all reports of hate incidents and bring offenders
to justice.”
If you have been the victim of hate crime or know of someone who has been
the victim then crimes can be reported to West Yorkshire Police via our
website or 999/101.
