Cracking down on speeding was selected as a policing priority for the city west area following feedback from the local community.
After listening closely to the public’s concerns, the neighbourhood policing team carried out its latest anti-speeding operation on Wednesday (12 July).
Officers took out a speed gun and set up high-visibility checkpoints to help deter speeding on both Heathfield Road and Barlock Road – areas in Old Basford where offences have been reported before.
As part of the operation, the city west team pulled over motorists who were clocked as going over the limit, with drivers then receiving either tickets or guidance about improving their standard of driving at the roadside, depending on how fast they were going.
Officers also engaged with members of the public during the speeding operation, before later hosting a stand at a community engagement event at Vernon Park, where people were able to approach and speak to them further about crime in the area.
Sergeant Jordan Hinds, of Nottinghamshire Police’s city west team, said: “It was great to be able to meet with so many people from the Old Basford area as part of this day of action.
“This type of engagement is extremely important in allowing us to hear from the local community about what they’d like us to focus on as their neighbourhood policing team.
“The public have told us they want us to tackle speeding and highlighted Heathfield Road and Barlock Road as areas of concern, which is precisely why we visited these roads for this operation.
“As part of the day, we went out with the speed gun and set up high-visibility checkpoints at these locations, in a bid to deter future speeding by pulling people over who were going too fast and providing that visible presence on the streets.
“Our main purpose for carrying out these operations isn’t to persecute people as they’re going about their daily business or to ruin their day, it’s to make the roads safer so that people can go about their day and enjoy it, without worrying about speeding motorists.”
