The incident happened at approximately 4.09pm on North Quay near to the Aldi store. The victim, in her 30s, was followed along Southtown Road prior to the incident before she was approached by an unknown man who attempted to sexually assault her.
Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, has any information or dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage to come forward.
The man was described as being in his 40s, with brown hair and stubble, wearing a brown jacket and khaki combat trousers.
Detective Inspector Donald Dallas said: “We are currently investigating the circumstances around this incident and would appeal to anyone who may be able to help with information or footage. We are also carrying out extra patrols in the area for reassurance.”
