Police appeal following serious collision in Rainham

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with dash-cam footage, to come forward in connection with a traffic collision in Rainham, that has left a baby in a life-threatening condition and two adults injured. Immediately following the collision members of the public assisted in detaining a suspect. Police are particularly keen to hear from those people. Police were called shortly after 15:24hrs on Tuesday 24 April, to reports of a vehicle colliding with pedestrians on South End Road, Rainham. Officers attended, along with the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade. The driver of the car, a dark blue Mercedes A180, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving. He has been taken to an east London police station where he remains in custody. Three pedestrians were injured and have been conveyed to hospital by London Ambulance Service, they are; – a two year old male child. He remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries. – a 32 year old woman. She remains in hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. – a 25 year old woman remains in hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
