Abuse Started When Victim Was Just a Child
Barrymore James has been locked up for 24 years after sexually abusing a girl from the age of around five. The vile crimes began in roughly 1990 and continued until she was about 13, sometimes happening two or three times a week.
Victim Courageously Spoke Out Three Decades Later
The victim, now an adult, came forward in 2021 to report the abuse. She revealed shocking details of how James forced her to smoke crack cocaine and heroin before assaulting her. On multiple occasions, he also made her view pornographic material.
James Denied All Allegations but Was Found Guilty
Despite denying the claims when interviewed, James was charged with a string of serious sexual offences. On 22 July, Leicester Crown Court found the 65-year-old guilty of:
- 12 counts of indecent assault
- 2 counts of sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 years
- 2 counts of indecency with a child
Justice Served with Lengthy Prison Sentence
Today (Monday 20 October), James – who has no fixed address – was sentenced to 24 years behind bars at Leicester Crown Court. The sentence brings a brutal chapter to a close and sends a strong message to abusers everywhere.
