A harrowing day on London’s train lines has left one person dead and another fighting for life after two separate incidents at Hanwell and Watford stations.
Fatal Incident at Hanwell
Police were called to Hanwell railway station in west London around midday following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics arrived swiftly, but sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The British Transport Police confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious and they are preparing a file for the coroner.
Services impacted included the Elizabeth Line, Great Western Railway, and Heathrow Express, with delays and cancellations between Paddington, Heathrow Airport, and Reading while emergency teams worked.
Serious Injury at Watford High Street
Just hours later, at around 3pm, emergency crews responded to another incident at Watford High Street station on the London Overground Lioness line from London Euston.
A woman was seriously injured after being struck on the tracks. Authorities say her injuries are “life-threatening and life-changing”. The line was shut down and all services between Watford and London Euston were cancelled.
Transport Disruption and Ongoing Investigation
- Major disruption hit trains from Paddington and Euston throughout the day, with lines closed for emergency response.
- British Transport Police urged the public for patience as investigations continue.
