A murder investigation has been launched following a stabbing in Ilford.

Police were called at 9.28pm on Friday, 9 October to reports of an assault on Southdown Crescent in Ilford.

Officers attended and found a man, believed aged in his 30s, suffering from a stab injury. They immediately provided first aid. Despite their efforts, and that of the London Ambulance Service, the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 10.31pm.

Officers are in the process of informing next of kin. Formal identification awaits.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

A crime scene remains in place.

Detectives from the Specialist Crime Command investigate.

At this early stage, there have been no arrests and enquiries into the circumstances continue.
