Off-Duty Police Officer Detains Suspected Thief at Bluewater Shopping Centre

An off-duty police officer swiftly intervened to help detain a suspected thief attempting to flee after allegedly stealing two iPhones from the Apple store at Bluewater shopping centre. The incident occurred around 11:40 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

According to reports, a man attempted to make off with two iPhones, sparking a chase as security guards pursued him through the mall. In an unexpected turn, the suspect ran directly into the path of the off-duty officer, who immediately apprehended him and held him until further police patrols arrived on the scene.

The 26-year-old suspect, from Wembley, was arrested on suspicion of theft, assaulting an emergency worker, and common assault. Following his arrest, he was released on bail with a strict condition prohibiting him from entering Kent. He is due to report back on Monday, November 25, as the investigation continues.

This incident highlights the commitment of officers to public safety, even while off duty. The officer’s quick response contributed to the successful detention of the suspect, preventing further incidents at the popular shopping destination.
