Northern Line Tragedy: Person Dies After Being Hit by Train at Charing Cross

A person has been pronounced dead at the scene following a tragic incident on the London Underground’s Northern line this morning.

Emergency services were called at around 8.35am to Charing Cross Underground Station, where a person was reported to be on the tracks. Despite the best efforts of London Ambulance Service paramedics, the individual was sadly confirmed dead at the scene.

The southbound section of the Northern line is currently suspended between Kennington and Camden Town via Charing Cross, and between Kennington and Battersea Power Station.

Emergency Response and Disruption

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “Police were called at 8.35am today (22 July) to reports of a casualty on the tracks on the Northern Line at Charing Cross railway station.

“Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

TfL confirmed that tickets are being accepted on:

  • London Buses

  • Southeastern

  • Thameslink

  • South Western Railway

Minor delays are affecting the rest of the Northern line, and passengers are being urged to avoid travel on affected routes where possible.

TfL advises all passengers to:

  • Check live service updates via the TfL app or website

  • Use alternative routes during the suspension

  • Allow extra time for travel

An investigation into the incident is now underway. No further details about the deceased have been released at this time.
