New Chief Fire Officer Appointed for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Fire Authority has officially appointed Matthew Warren as the new Chief Fire Officer for the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service. Warren, who has served as the Service’s Deputy Chief Executive since 2015, will assume his new role on 1 July following a unanimous approval from the authority.

Councillor Edna Murphy, Chair of the Authority, praised Warren’s selection: “Matthew was the outstanding candidate from a robust and challenging process, including interviews with members, the current leadership team, and a panel of colleagues from across the organisation. The Authority’s endorsement of the appointment panel’s unanimous recommendation is a tribute to Matthew’s outstanding qualities.”

With a professional background in finance and accountancy, Warren has been with the Service since 2003, following his tenure at Cambridgeshire County Council. Throughout his career at the Fire Service, he has held various positions, including Head of Finance and Corporate Development and Director of Resources. Additionally, Warren has undertaken roles as treasurer for the authority and Chief Financial Officer for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.

A key member of the senior leadership team, Warren has played a significant role in shaping and executing the organisation’s strategy. His contributions include the development and delivery of new flagship fire stations in Cambridge and Huntingdon, as well as leading the Service’s sustainability strategy. Alongside his financial expertise, Warren holds strategic incident command and emergency management qualifications, equipping him to support operational incidents effectively.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Warren stated, “I am delighted to be offered the role of Chief Fire Officer and look forward to continuing the fantastic journey we have been on over recent years. There is a great team in place here with talented people across the organisation, so I am confident we can continue to punch above our weight and perform to high standards.”

Matthew Warren’s appointment marks a new chapter for the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, with high expectations for continued excellence and strategic advancements under his leadership.
