A murder investigation has been launched after a woman in her 40s was found dead inside a home in a seaside town in Clacton, Essex, earlier today.
Emergency services were called to a property on Skelmersdale Road at 11:30am following reports of a serious incident. Paramedics arrived at the scene within minutes, but despite their best efforts, the woman was tragically pronounced dead.
A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of murder, Essex Police confirmed. The suspect was later rushed to hospital in a serious condition, though further details surrounding his injuries have not yet been disclosed.
Detective Chief Inspector Rob Huddleston, who is leading the investigation, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and reassured the local community.
“Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the woman who sadly died,” he said.
“We know how concerning this incident will be to the local community and I can assure you that we are working diligently to understand exactly what happened.
Our officers were on the scene within five minutes of the call and worked closely with our ambulance service colleagues to try and help the woman.”
He added that officers will maintain a presence in the area over the coming days as enquiries continue.
“Please come and speak to us if you have any concerns or information. If you witnessed the incident or have any footage, please come forward and speak to us as soon as possible.”
Public Appeal
Essex Police have appealed to anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area around the time of the incident to get in touch. Residents with CCTV, doorbell camera footage, or dashcam recordings are also encouraged to assist the investigation.

A cordon remains in place at the property as forensic teams carry out detailed investigations.
