A murder investigation is underway following a fatal stabbing near a South London railway station on the night of Monday, January 8. A second victim, a 16-year-old boy, was also stabbed in the leg nearby but survived the attack.
The British Transport Police initiated the investigation after responding to a call at 11:53pm reporting an injured man at Strawberry Hill station. Upon arrival, officers, in conjunction with personnel from the Metropolitan Police and the London Ambulance Service, discovered a young man in his twenties with a serious stab wound. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the victim tragically lost his life at the scene.
Merely six minutes later, the teenager was located in the vicinity of Alexander Close. In light of these incidents, law enforcement launched a murder investigation, resulting in the arrest of four men believed to be connected to the case. All four suspects remain in custody as of this morning (Tuesday, January 9).
The ongoing investigation has led to the closure of Strawberry Hill railway station and the suspension of a South Western Railway line. Consequently, several train services have been cancelled throughout the day, prompting commuters to reroute their journeys via Clapham Junction for train connections.
South Western Rail stated the incident: “The police are dealing with an incident between Twickenham and Teddington. While this takes place, all lines between these stations are blocked. Due to the nature of the incident, the area is currently under the control of the Metropolitan Police, and we have been asked not to run any trains between these stations until further notice. Strawberry Hill is closed and will have no train service.”
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover further details surrounding this tragic and deeply concerning event.
