Murder Investigation Launched After Fatal Stabbing in Canterbury

 

Four men remain in custody following the death of a 23-year-old man in Canterbury, sparking a murder investigation. Kent Police were called to a disturbance on Canterbury’s High Street, near the junction with St Margaret’s Street, at 11:31 p.m. on Thursday, 10 October 2024. Emergency services arrived to find the man with injuries consistent with stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The four men, all in their 20s, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently being held in custody. As part of the investigation, police have conducted searches at properties in Herne Bay High Street and near Pine Tree Avenue in Canterbury.

A cordon was established in Canterbury High Street and St Margaret’s Street overnight, with officers working to reduce its size to minimize disruption.

Canterbury District Commander Chief Inspector Paul Stoner reassured the community: “We understand that this incident and its location will have caused concern in the community, and I would like to reassure people that we have a large team of officers and detectives working to establish the full circumstances.

He also thanked local businesses and residents for their cooperation during the ongoing investigation, adding that efforts are being made to minimize the impact on the city centre.
