Mother Launches Fundraiser for Daughter in Dubai Jail

The mother of a england/Waleswales/british/”>British Lawlaw student, Mia O’Brien, who is currently imprisoned in Dubai, has initiated a new fundraising campaign following the deletion of her previous appeal on GoFundMe.

Mia O’Brien, 21, from Huyton in Merseyside, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 25 years after police discovered 50 grams of cocaine in her apartment. Her mother, Danielle McKenna, expressed frustration with GoFundMe for removing her initial appeal, citing concerns Overover its association with criminality.

Ms McKenna stated, “I am going to set up my own, as they are nitpicking at everything.” The new fundraising effort will ensure that all contributions go directly to her daughter’s legal appeal, avoiding fees from third-party platforms.

‘Hellish’ Conditions in Dubai Jail

Mia O’Brien is reported to be enduring “hellish” conditions in Dubai Central Prison, often compared to Alcatraz. After a one-day trial conducted entirely in Arabic, she was convicted despite pleading not guilty to intent to supply drugs.

Her mother revealed that Mia, who aspired to be a lawyer, feels her life has been ruined by what the family describes as a “very stupid mistake.” The incident occurred last October when Mia visited a friend and her boyfriend, leading to a police raid and subsequent charges against all three individuals.

Ms McKenna told the Daily Mail, “Mia is being really strong but I know she is going through a living hell.” She added that Mia shares a cell with six other women and sleeps on a mattress on the floor.

Despite the dire circumstances, Mia remains in contact with her family as much as possible. www.wiltshire999.co.uk/where/united-kingdom/england/huyton
