Minicab driver facing ban after almost hitting Surrey police car while holding mobile phone.

A minicab driver is facing a possible disqualification from the roads after being caught using his mobile phone while driving in Surrey.

The unnamed driver was seen swerving across lanes while holding a mobile phone, almost hitting a passing police vehicle late on Saturday 18 April.

The dodgy piece of driving sparked Surrey Roads Policing Unit to intercept the minicab driver. Closer interrogation of the man revealed he already had 9 points on his driving licence and will now face the possibility of a ban.

Roads Policing Unit (RPU) Surrey Police – UK highlighted the incident on their official Twitter account, saying: “Late shift just heading home. Last stop of the shift was a minicab who swerved out his lane and almost side-swiped a marked car… all while holding his phone.

The driver has 9 points and has been reported to court for possible disqualification. And no it wasn’t an Uber.

The offence of using a mobile device while driving comes with a fine of up to £1,000 and a 6 point punishment added to your driving licence.

In most cases, accumulating 12 points on your licence will result in a disqualification from driving.
