A Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with assault following an incident in england/bermondsey/”>Bermondsey, South london/”>East London, in May 2024.

Details of the Incident

PC Ben Hanscombe, who is stationed at Peckham police station, faces charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The charge arises from allegations that excessive force was used during the detention of a man.

Investigation and Charges

The incident was reported to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in June 2024. After a thorough investigation, a file of evidence was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, which subsequently authorised the charge against the officer.

Court Appearance

The 26-year-old officer is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 15, 2024, in relation to the assault charge.
