Manchester United has secured the services of England forward Marcus Rashford for an extended period after he signed a new contract until 2028. The deal, worth £325,000 per week, was finalised after negotiations that had been ongoing for a while, as Rashford’s previous contract was set to expire in 2024.

Under the guidance of new manager Erik ten Hag last season, the 25-year-old striker experienced a resurgence, scoring an impressive 30 goals in 56 games. Since his debut in 2016 against Midtjylland, Rashford has found the back of the net 123 times in 359 appearances for his beloved club.

Expressing his delight, Rashford said, “I joined Manchester United as a seven-year-old boy with a dream. That same passion, pride, and determination to succeed still drives me every time I have the honour of wearing the shirt.” He acknowledged the amazing experiences he has already had at the club but emphasised his relentless determination to win more trophies in the years ahead.

Reports suggest that Rashford turned down more lucrative offers from both domestic and international clubs to remain at Old Trafford. He has committed to the club until June 30, 2028, displaying confidence in the leadership of manager Erik ten Hag and his ability to deliver further success.

“I can assure you that I will give everything to help the team reach the level we are capable of, and I can feel the same determination around the dressing room,” Rashford added. He expressed his excitement for the future under ten Hag and his eagerness to contribute to the team’s success.

Rashford has faced challenges in recent times, including racist abuse following his missed penalty in the Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy. He also underwent shoulder surgery in August 2021, which affected his form and resulted in him scoring only five goals during a season that saw managerial changes at Manchester United.

However, Rashford’s form improved significantly last season, particularly after the World Cup, where he scored 10 goals in as many Premier League games after the restart. His contributions helped Manchester United secure a Champions League spot and clinch victory in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United.

John Murtough, Manchester United’s football director, praised Rashford’s qualities, stating that he exemplifies what it takes to succeed as a Manchester United player. Murtough highlighted Rashford’s talent, humility, dedication, and drive, and expressed confidence that there is still much more to come from him.

Murtough also acknowledged that working with manager Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff will provide the ideal environment for Rashford to continue developing into one of the best-attacking players in the world. With Rashford’s commitment, Manchester United fans can look forward to his continued contributions on the pitch in the years ahead.
