Man jailed for trafficking into HMP Wandsworth

A man has been jailed for smuggling contraband into a prison. On Thursday, 17 May, Ethan Enwonwu, 26, (12.10.91) of Haslemere Road, Thornton Heath appeared at Kingston Crown Court where he was jailed for possession with intent to supply drugs and smuggling List B articles [communication devices] into HMP Wandsworth. He was jailed for five years and three months for possession with intent to supply class A drugs; 27 months for possession with intent to supply class B drugs; and nine months each for three counts of conveying the communication devices into HMP Wandsworth. All sentences will run cocurrently. Health worker, Enwonwu, had been the subject of a random staff search when he arrived for work at the prison on 23 December 2017, a day that he was not scheduled to work. He was found to have in his possession both Class A and Class B drugs, 28 mobile phones and phone accessories. Police were called and Enwonwu was arrested on suspicion of smuggling prohibited items into the prison. He was subsequently released under investigation and appeared at Kingston Crown Court on Tuesday, 1 May where he entered a guilty plea.
