Man Jailed for Life for Rape and Attempted Rape in Hayes and Southall

A 24-year-old man from Hayes has been jailed for life following a Metropolitan Police investigation into the rape of a child and an attempted rape of a woman in two west London parks.

Life Sentence for Sexual Predator

Navroop Singh, of Mellow Lane East, Hayes was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 14 years for five serious offences, including:

Rape of a girl under 13
Attempted rape of a woman
Assault by penetration of a child
Possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence (x2)

The charges relate to two separate incidents:

An attempted rape in Southall Park, Ealing, on 13 October 2024
The rape of a young child in Hayes End Park, Hillingdon, on 23 October 2024

How Police Caught the Offender

A dedicated team of officers from the Met’s West Area Command Unit used CCTV, forensics, and witness accounts to link both attacks and track down Singh.

On 13 October, Singh approached a woman in her 20s near the gates of Southall Park in the early hours of the morning. Armed with an imitation firearm, he attempted to rape her but fled when she raised the alarm.

Remarkably, the woman encountered two off-duty police officers who helped her reach safety and report the attack.

Ten days later, a child was raped in Hayes End Park. Police quickly identified similarities in both attacks and launched a targeted investigation.

Detectives conducted door-to-door appeals, distributed leaflets, and stepped up patrols. Singh was eventually arrested on Sunday 27 October, just a few doors from his home.

Evidence and Guilty Pleas

While Singh denied the attempted rape in Southall and one firearms charge, he was convicted after a four-day trial.

He had already pleaded guilty to the following charges related to the Hayes incident:

Rape of a girl under 13
Assault by penetration of a girl under 13
Possession of an imitation firearm with intent

Met Police Statement

Acting Chief Superintendent Sean Lynch praised the victims and the officers involved:

“I would like to commend the strength of the victim-survivors and their families and thank them for their unwavering bravery in reporting these awful incidents to us.

“This conviction is testament to the officers’ thorough investigation, which has identified a violent sexual offender and undoubtedly prevented further harm.

“We are continuing to prioritise tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG). I hope the community will find reassurance in our action to put this predator behind bars.”
