Man in Critical Condition After M60 Crash – Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detectives are continuing their investigations after a non-stop collision in Ashby resulted in the death of a man

A serious collision on the M60 in Greater Manchester has left a man in critical condition after his car overturned and came to rest on its roof. The incident, which occurred at approximately 5:45 am, has prompted an appeal by the police for information from potential witnesses.

The M60 anti-clockwise carriageway has been closed between Junction 27 in Stockport and Junction 24 in Denton due to the severity of the collision. According to reports, a vehicle struck the nearside barrier before overturning and ending up on its roof.

The driver of the overturned vehicle sustained critical injuries as a result of the crash. Emergency services, including Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue and North West Ambulance Services, responded to the scene promptly. The injured driver has been transported to Salford Royal Hospital for treatment.

The North West Motorway Police Group is currently at the scene and will be conducting a thorough collision investigation as part of their ongoing efforts to determine the cause of the incident.

A spokesperson for the North West Motorway Police stated, “We have a serious incident ongoing on the M60 between Junction 25 and Junction 24. The carriageway is completely closed, and we will be releasing trapped traffic shortly. The diversion for the full closure is indicated by a solid circle.”

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are appealing to any potential witnesses or individuals who may have dashcam footage related to the incident to come forward and assist with their inquiries. The police have also outlined a diversion route for anti-clockwise traffic.

Motorists travelling anti-clockwise on the M60 are advised to exit at Junction 27 and follow these steps:

  1. Take the 1st exit onto the A626 northbound at the roundabout.
  2. Continue until the B6167 roundabout and take the 4th exit onto the B6167 northbound.
  3. Proceed to the A57 roundabout and turn right onto the A57 eastbound.
  4. Finally, re-join the M60 at Junction 24.

Drivers in the affected area are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys, plan alternative routes, or consider delaying their travel plans if possible.

Anyone with information about the collision is urged to contact Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit at 0161 856 4745, quoting incident number 662 of 30/12/2023. Alternatively, information can be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or through the GMP’s website using the ‘report’ tool at www.gmp.police.uk.
