In the early hours of Sunday morning, at approximately 5am, emergency services responded to reports of a disturbance in North Tyneside. Upon arrival, they found John Smyth, 48, with serious injuries consistent with an assault. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Mr. Smyth, who had recently relocated to North Tyneside from the Derby area, was originally from Glasgow. His next of kin are currently receiving support from specially-trained officers as they cope with this tragic loss.
A spokesperson for the police said, “Our thoughts remain firmly with John’s family and loved ones following their incredibly tragic loss. We continue to offer any support they need and ask that their privacy is respected as they attempt to process the events of the last 36 hours.
As part of the ongoing investigation, two men, aged 41 and 34, were initially arrested on suspicion of murder. The 41-year-old suspect remains in police custody, while the 34-year-old has been released and will face no further action.
