Man Found Dead in Car Hidden Behind Hedgerow in East Yorkshire

A man has been found dead inside a vehicle discovered concealed behind a hedgerow off a rural road in East Yorkshire.

Humberside Police were alerted at approximately 8:25pm on Monday after a member of the public reported seeing a car in a field near the B1249, close to Driffield. Initial searches did not locate the vehicle, but a more extensive effort led officers to a black Peugeot 207, hidden behind a hedge near the York Road junction, shortly after 11:00pm.

The driver, a 46-year-old man, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed, and police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.

Voluntary Referral

In a statement, Humberside Police confirmed it has voluntarily referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), a standard procedure in cases where prior police contact or response is involved.

Appeal for Information

Police are urging anyone who may have been travelling on the B1249 between 8:05pm and 8:25pm on Monday evening to come forward. They are particularly interested in hearing from drivers with dashcam footage or anyone who might have seen the black Peugeot 207 in or near the area.

Witnesses or those with relevant footage are asked to contact Humberside Police on 101, quoting the incident reference.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet confirmed whether the man’s death is being treated as suspicious.
