A 45-year-old man has died following a serious road traffic collision on the A13 near Rainham, east London, police have confirmed.
What Happened?
Metropolitan Police were called at 20:32hrs on Sunday evening to reports of a crash on the A13 slip road near New Road in Wennington.
Emergency services, including London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade, rushed to the scene where a car had collided with a stationary lorry trailer that was parked in a layby.
The driver of the car – a 45-year-old man – was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
Multi-Vehicle Collisions
The initial crash caused several other vehicles to collide, although no additional injuries were reported, police said.
The A13 Eastbound was closed overnight from Ferry Lane Interchange to Wennington Interchange, with significant delays and congestion reported back to Dagenham. Investigation work and vehicle recovery continued into Monday morning.
Police Appeal
Detectives are investigating the full circumstances of the collision and are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.

Traffic Impact
National Highways advised drivers to avoid the area or expect long delays, with diversion routes in place throughout Sunday night and Monday morning.
