Man dies after being pulled from the River Wey in Guildford

Shortly before 6pm this evening, (Tuesday, 28 May) Officers were called to the River Wey near the Rowbarge pub by ambulance crews, following reports of a concern for safety. Members of the public reported that a man had dived into the river but had not resurfaced. Sadly, a man’s body has been recovered from the river. At this stage the man has not been formally identified, though we know who he is and have informed his family. A large emergency services presence is at the scene including police, Surrey Fire and Rescue, South East Coast Ambulance Service, a dive team and search and rescue. We would ask that members of the public avoid the area to allow emergency services to conduct their enquiries. We are treating the death as unexplained, but do not believe at this stage that there was anyone else involved. A file will be prepared and passed to the coroner.
