Man Charged with Theft After Bag with Valuables Reportedly Stolen in Tunbridge Wells

A man has been charged with theft after allegedly taking a bag filled with valuable items that were reported missing in Tunbridge Wells. The incident occurred on London Road around 8:45 a.m. on February 18, 2024, when the bag fell from a moving vehicle.

The bag, containing passports, electronics, and other valuables worth approximately £1,700, belonged to the victim’s family. Despite the victim’s immediate attempt to retrieve the bag after stopping the vehicle, it had already disappeared from the scene.

An investigation led by the West Division Victim-Based Crime Team resulted in the arrest of Joshua Perks, residing on Roundhill Road in Tunbridge Wells. Perks, aged 35, has been charged with theft by finding in connection with the incident.

Perks has been granted bail and is scheduled to appear before Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, May 1. The charges against him stem from the alleged act of taking the bag and its contents, which included family passports, iPads, a GPS watch, and car keys.

The West Division Victim-Based Crime Team has been commended for their efforts in investigating the case and bringing charges against the suspect. Further updates regarding the legal proceedings will be provided as they become available
