A man has been charged with the murder of 19-year-old Ben Procter, who was found with a fatal head injury in Peterborough. Procter was discovered collapsed on Wellington Street at 11.48pm on Sunday. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly after, at 00:36 on Monday.
Ako Mohammad, 33, of Lincoln Road, Peterborough, has been charged with murder and is scheduled to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Cambridgeshire Police are appealing for dashcam and CCTV footage from the Wellington Street, Star Road, and Boongate areas of the city, covering the time frame from 10pm on 15 September.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted at Peterborough City Hospital on Wednesday to further investigate the cause of death.
Detective Inspector Richard Stott from the Cambridgeshire Police Major Crime Unit reassured residents, stating: “I understand this is likely to be concerning to residents, but we believe it to be an isolated incident, and we have extra patrols in the area today. Our thoughts are with Ben’s family, and specialist officers are keeping them updated on the investigation.”
