Man Charged with Multiple Bribery Offences in Met Counter Terrorism Investigation

A 51-year-old man has been charged with multiple bribery offences following a detailed investigation led by Counter Terrorism Policing.

Nathan Gill, of North Wales, has been charged via postal requisition with:

  • One count of conspiracy to commit bribery under the Criminal Law Act 1977
  • Eight counts of bribery under the Bribery Act 2010

Gill is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, February 24, where he will face the charges.

Investigation Led by Counter Terrorism Command

The investigation was spearheaded by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command. Gill was first interviewed under caution on March 3, 2022, in connection with bribery allegations.

Following months of further enquiries, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) Counter Terrorism Division reviewed the evidence and authorised the charges.

A spokesperson from Counter Terrorism Policing stated: “The investigation was thorough and involved complex inquiries into serious bribery allegations. We are committed to holding individuals accountable for actions that compromise the integrity of our security operations.”

Nature of the Bribery Allegations

While specific details of the bribery offences have not been made public due to the ongoing legal proceedings, sources close to the investigation suggest the allegations may be tied to attempts to improperly influence security operations.

The charges indicate potential breaches that could have affected national security interests, which is why the Counter Terrorism Command became involved.

CPS Statement on Charges

The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed its decision to charge Gill, citing sufficient evidence and the public interest in pursuing prosecution.

A CPS spokesperson added: “After careful consideration of the evidence presented by Counter Terrorism Policing, we have authorised charges against Nathan Gill. Bribery, particularly in the context of national security, is taken extremely seriously, and we will present the case fully in court.”

Next Steps in Legal Proceedings

Gill will make his first court appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on February 24, where the initial hearing will determine if the case proceeds to a higher court. He is expected to enter a plea and hear the formal charges against him.

Bribery in Counter Terrorism: A Growing Concern

This case highlights increasing concerns about bribery and corruption in sensitive areas such as counter-terrorism. Law enforcement agencies stress that maintaining the integrity of operations is critical to safeguarding the public.
