Chainsaw Chase Leads to Police Injuries and Arrest in Paisley

A man has been charged after a disturbing incident unfolded on Glasgow Road in Paisley, Renfrewshire, yesterday afternoon, involving a police car crash and a harrowing chase where an officer was purportedly pursued down the road with a chainsaw.

The commotion transpired following a collision between a car and a stationary police vehicle around 1 p.m. yesterday. Reports indicate that the incident escalated into a confrontation, with a 30-year-old man allegedly wielding a chainsaw and pursuing an officer.

Police Scotland confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. However, authorities have clarified that the event is not being treated as terror-related.

Two officers sustained injuries during the altercation and required treatment from paramedics. The injured officers were swiftly attended to, and the suspect is scheduled to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court today, with a report to be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

The incident prompted the closure of Glasgow Road between Buchlyvie Road and Allanton Avenue, although the road has since been reopened to traffic.

Footage from the scene captured the intense confrontation, with images showing a police patrol car crashed into the wall of a nearby house and a dark-colored Volkswagen with severe frontal damage, suggesting a collision between vehicles during the altercation.

Videos circulating online depict a chaotic scene, with several officers responding to the confrontation. Passersby and onlookers also stepped in to assist the officers in subduing the suspect.

While the incident caused significant disruption, there have been no reports of further injuries, and police have reassured residents that there is no wider risk to public safety.

Residents expressed shock at the unprecedented event, with one local resident telling the Scottish Sun, “It’s a busy road but it’s the first time I’ve seen the likes of this. Thankfully no one appears to have been seriously hurt, which is the main thing.”

Police Scotland issued a statement urging drivers to avoid the affected area and use alternative routes while investigations into the incident continue. The authorities remain on the scene, ensuring the safety and security of the public.
