Man Charged After Damaging Bus and Indecent Exposure in Brighton

A 57-year-old man has been charged following an incident in Brighton, where a bus was damaged, and he was reported to have exposed himself in public.

Phillip Murphy, of Selsfield Drive, was arrested by police on Western Road, near Western Terrace, at around 5:50 PM on October 6, after officers responded to reports of criminal behaviour. According to Sussex Police, Murphy allegedly caused damage to a bus, exposed himself, and used threatening and abusive language or behaviour that caused alarm and distress.

Additionally, Murphy faces charges for two counts of assaulting an emergency worker during his arrest.

The day after the incident, Murphy was officially charged with criminal damage, indecent exposure, threatening and abusive behaviour, and assaulting emergency workers. He was remanded to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 8.

Following his court appearance, Murphy was granted bail under strict conditions. He is scheduled to appear at Lewes Crown Court for his next hearing on November 5.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and police have asked witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
