A 39-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of kidnapping following a disturbing incident in Oldham, Greater Manchester, involving an 87-year-old victim.
The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into reports that the elderly man was forcibly abducted from Lee Street, Oldham, between 9pm and 9.30am on September 15, 2024. Authorities state that the victim was allegedly dragged into a black car and driven to West Yorkshire, where he was assaulted and thrown from the vehicle.
Despite suffering severe injuries, the elderly man managed to seek help by knocking on a door at approximately 10.40pm, nearly two hours after his abduction.
Detective Inspector Emma Hulston from the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Major Incident Team stated, “We are still establishing the full circumstances of this horrendous incident, including putting together an exact timeline that led to the man being attacked and thrown from the car miles from his home.
While acknowledging the shocking nature of the crime, DI Hulston reassured the public that the incident appeared to be isolated, with no wider threat to the community.
Police have launched a major incident portal and are asking for additional information from the public. Authorities are especially interested in any CCTV, dash cam, or doorbell footage that could aid their investigation.
