A 35-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an assault in Northam last night.
Police were alerted to the incident just after 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, after receiving reports from the South Central Ambulance Service regarding an assault on Kent Street in Southampton.
Upon arrival at the scene on Kent Street, officers found a man in his 40s who had sustained injuries as a result of the assault. He was subsequently transported to the hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
Initially, a 35-year-old Southampton man was arrested on suspicion of assault. However, the severity of the victim’s injuries prompted a reassessment by the authorities, leading to the suspect’s arrest on suspicion of attempted murder.
Additionally, a 34-year-old woman from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of intentionally assisting or encouraging the commission of an offense. Both individuals are currently in police custody as the investigation unfolds.
A spokesperson for the police assured the public that all parties involved in the incident are known to each other, and there is no perceived broader risk to public safety at this time. Nonetheless, officers will maintain a presence at the scene as inquiries progress.
