A man from the West Midlands has been arrested following a serious crash that left an elderly woman badly injured on the M5 near Clevedon.
Crash Details and Arrest
- The smash happened around 11:30pm on Saturday, 4 October, at junction 20 southbound carriageway.
- A white Renault Master flatbed van collided with a white Hyundai i10, which was carrying an 80-something female driver.
- Police and witnesses gave first aid at the scene before the woman was rushed to hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
- The van was found abandoned close by, sparking a hunt for its driver.
- Two days later, on Monday 6 October, a man in his 20s was arrested in the West Midlands on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
- He has since been released on police bail as the investigation continues.

Avon & Somerset Police are piecing together CCTV footage and speaking with witnesses to get a full picture of the crash. They urge anyone with information to come forward.
