Detectives investigating a suspected acid attack outside a school in Westminster have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with the incident.
The attack occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. on Monday, 30 September, outside a school on Alfred Road. Officers on patrol were alerted by school staff after a substance was allegedly thrown at two students, aged 14 and 16, and a staff member. The victims were approached by a lone man who threw the substance at them before fleeing the scene.
Following an investigation, a man was arrested on Thursday morning, 3 October, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He was taken to a central London police station and remains in custody.
Detective Superintendent Scott Ware, who is leading the investigation, stated: “The investigation team has been working tirelessly to piece together the events of this horrific attack. We launched an urgent manhunt to identify and arrest the man responsible, and I am pleased to confirm an arrest has been made.
The 14-year-old girl involved sustained serious injuries and has returned to the hospital for further treatment, after being briefly discharged. Her injuries are currently being treated as potentially life-changing. Meanwhile, the 16-year-old boy has been discharged from the hospital, with his injuries being described as less severe.
A staff member from the school also sustained injuries while rushing to provide first aid to the children.
Detective Superintendent Ware also commented on the impact of the attack: “We are aware of the concerns raised by the community and questions surrounding the circumstances of this incident. We have been working closely with our key partners to provide support and reassurance to those affected, and we will maintain a visible policing presence outside the school.
