A man has been arrested following a fatal collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian in West Wickham during the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were called to West Wickham High Street at around 12:42am on March 13 after reports that a man in his 50s had been struck by a vehicle. Paramedics rushed to the scene and began treatment, but the victim, who was believed to be in cardiac arrest, was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.
The man’s family has been informed and is currently being supported by specially trained officers.
The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 30s, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence. He is currently in police custody.
A police spokesperson said enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
