A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after an alleged bleach attack at Broadway Market, Hackney, this afternoon. Emergency services were called to the popular market area around 1:40 p.m. following reports of an assault where a man had bleach poured over him.
Officers, with assistance from a passerby, provided first aid until paramedics from the London Ambulance Service arrived and treated the victim on the scene. The man’s condition has not yet been confirmed.
The Metropolitan Police stated, “A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in custody as enquiries continue.”
The incident led to traffic disruptions, with Westgate Street closed between Broadway Market and Sheep Lane, affecting London bus routes 236 and 394. Transport for London (TfL) reported that these routes are now diverted, advising passengers to allow extra travel time.
Broadway Market, known for its bustling street food and retail stalls, was temporarily disrupted as police conducted their investigation.
